He went to the high priest \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> and asked him for letters to the\nsynagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the\nWay, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to\nJerusalem. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from\nheaven flashed around him. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to\nhim, \u2018Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font>\n \u2018Who are you, Lord?\u2019 Saul asked.\n\u2018I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,\u2019 he replied. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> \u2018Now get up and go into\nthe city, and you will be told what you must do.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font>\n The men travelling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound\nbut did not see anyone. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his\neyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> For\nthree days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font>\n In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in\na vision, \u2018Ananias!\u2019\n\u2018Yes, Lord,\u2019 he answered.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font>\n The Lord told him, \u2018Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a\nman from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> In a vision he has seen a\nman named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font>\n \u2018Lord,\u2019 Ananias answered, \u2018I have heard many reports about this man and all\nthe harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> And he has come\nhere with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font>\n But the Lord said to Ananias, \u2018Go! This man is my chosen instrument to\nproclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of\nIsrael. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font>\n Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul,\nhe said, \u2018Brother Saul, the Lord \u2013 Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as\nyou were coming here \u2013 has sent me so that you may see again and be filled\nwith the Holy Spirit.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul\u2019s\neyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptised, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> and after taking\nsome food, he regained his strength.\nSaul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> At once he began\nto preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God\n<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
