Then\nsuddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of\nthe covenant, whom you desire, will come,\u2019 says the LORD Almighty.<\/font>\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font><font color=\"green\">\nBut who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he\nappears? For he will be like a refiner\u2019s fire or a launderer\u2019s soap. <\/font>\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> He will sit as\na refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like\ngold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in\nrighteousness, \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable\nto the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years.\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers,\nadulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud labourers of their wages,\nwho oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among\nyou of justice, but do not fear me,\u2019 says the LORD Almighty.\n<br><br> <br>\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Luke 2 v 2-40 <\/font>\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font>\nWhen the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses,\nJoseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> (as it is\nwritten in the Law of the Lord, \u2018Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the\nLord\u2019), \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font> and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the\nLord: \u2018a pair of doves or two young pigeons\u2019.\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font>\nNow there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and\ndevout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on\nhim. \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die\nbefore he had seen the Lord\u2019s Messiah. \n<br><br> \n\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> Moved by the Spirit, he went into the\ntemple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what\nthe custom of the Law required, \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> Simeon took him in his arms and praised\nGod, saying:\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,\nyou may now dismiss your servant in peace.\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font>\nFor my eyes have seen your salvation,\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font>\nwhich you have prepared in the sight of all nations:\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font>\na light for revelation to the Gentiles,\nand the glory of your people Israel.\u2019\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font>\nThe child\u2019s father and mother marvelled at what was said about him. \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font> Then\nSimeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: \u2018This child is destined to\ncause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be\nspoken against, \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a\nsword will pierce your own soul too.\u2019\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>36<\/b><\/font>\nThere was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of\nAsher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her\nmarriage, \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>37<\/b><\/font> and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the\ntemple but worshipped night and day, fasting and praying. \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>38<\/b><\/font> Coming up to\nthem at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child\nto all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.\n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font>\nWhen Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the\nLord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. \n<br><br> \n<font color=\"blue\"><b>40<\/b><\/font> And the child\ngrew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was\non him.\n<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
