Given by our reader Richard Palmer on the third Sunday of Lent &#8211; 8th March 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/080326\" width=\"500\" height=\"30\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/080326\/080326.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 4:26<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">John 4 v 5-26\n<br><br>\nJesus talks with a Samaritan woman<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> Jacob\u2019s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, \u201cWill you give me a drink?\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> The Samaritan woman said to him, \u201cYou are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?\u201d (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans)\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> Jesus answered her, \u201cIf you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> \u201cSir,\u201d the woman said, \u201cyou have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> Jesus answered, \u201cEveryone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> The woman said to him, \u201cSir, give me this water so that I won\u2019t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> He told her, \u201cGo, call your husband and come back.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> \u201cI have no husband,\u201d she replied.\n<br><br>\nJesus said to her, \u201cYou are right when you say you have no husband. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> \u201cSir,\u201d the woman said, \u201cI can see that you are a prophet. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> \u201cWoman,\u201d Jesus replied, \u201cbelieve me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font> You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font> God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font> The woman said, \u201cI know that Messiah\u201d (called Christ) \u201cis coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> Then Jesus declared, \u201cI, the one speaking to you\u2014I am he.\u201d\n\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">(part 2): John 4 v 27-30 and 39 \u2013 42\n<br><br>\nThe Disciples Rejoin Jesus<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d or \u201cWhy are you talking with her?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font> \u201cCome, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?\u201d \n<br><br>\n3<font color=\"blue\"><b>0<\/b><\/font> They came out of the town and made their way toward him.\n\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">Many Samaritans Believe<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font> Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman\u2019s testimony, \u201cHe told me everything I ever did.\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>40<\/b><\/font> So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>41<\/b><\/font> And because of his words many more became believers.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>42<\/b><\/font> They said to the woman, \u201cWe no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.\u201d\n<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
