{"id":296,"date":"2019-09-22T13:38:42","date_gmt":"2019-09-22T12:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/46.32.240.45\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/?p=296"},"modified":"2019-09-22T13:43:50","modified_gmt":"2019-09-22T12:43:50","slug":"the-shrewd-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/2019\/09\/22\/the-shrewd-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"The Shrewd Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> Sermon from St Andrews Church given by our regular visiting preacher Tony Sellers on the 22\/9\/19 entitled \u201cThe Shrewd Manager\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/220919\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"30\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3 <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/220919\/220919.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 3:48<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">1 Timothy 2 v 1-7<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"red\">Instructions on Worship<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>1<\/strong><\/font> I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people\u2014 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>2<\/strong><\/font> for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>3<\/strong><\/font> This is good, and pleases God our Savior, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>4<\/strong><\/font> who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>5<\/strong><\/font> For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>6<\/strong><\/font> who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>7<\/strong><\/font> And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle\u2014I am telling the truth, I am not lying\u2014and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.\n<br><br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">Luke 16 v 1-13<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"red\">The Parable of the Shrewd Manager<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>1<\/strong><\/font> Jesus told his disciples: \u201cThere was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>2<\/strong><\/font> So he called him in and asked him, \u2018What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>3<\/strong><\/font> \u201cThe manager said to himself, \u2018What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I\u2019m not strong enough to dig, and I\u2019m ashamed to beg\u2014 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>4<\/strong><\/font> I know what I\u2019ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>5<\/strong><\/font> \u201cSo he called in each one of his master\u2019s debtors. He asked the first, \u2018How much do you owe my master?\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>6<\/strong><\/font> \u201c\u2018Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,\u2019 he replied.\n<br><br>\n\u201cThe manager told him, \u2018Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>7<\/strong><\/font> \u201cThen he asked the second, \u2018And how much do you owe?\u2019\n<br><br>\n\u201c\u2018A thousand bushels of wheat,\u2019 he replied.\n<br><br>\n\u201cHe told him, \u2018Take your bill and make it eight hundred.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>8<\/strong><\/font> \u201cThe master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>9<\/strong><\/font> I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>10<\/strong><\/font> \u201cWhoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>11<\/strong><\/font> So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>12<\/strong><\/font> And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else\u2019s property, who will give you property of your own?\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><strong>13<\/strong><\/font> \u201cNo one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
