Sermon given by our reader Julie Taylor on the 30\/1\/22 for the 4th Sunday  after  Epiphany  entitled \u2018Simeon and Anna\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/300122\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"30\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p> Download Mp3\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/300122\/300122.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 3:30<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Luke 2 v 22-40\n<br><br>\nJesus presented in the temple<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font>  When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses,\nJoseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font>  (as it is\nwritten in the Law of the Lord, \u2018Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the\nLord\u2019), \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font>  and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the\nLord: \u2018a pair of doves or two young pigeons.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font>  Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and\ndevout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on\nhim. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font>  It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die\nbefore he had seen the Lord\u2019s Messiah. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font>  Moved by the Spirit, he went into\nthe temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him\nwhat the custom of the Law required, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font>  Simeon took him in his arms and\npraised God, saying:\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font>  \u2018Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,\nyou may now dismiss your servant in peace.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font>  For my eyes have seen your salvation,\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font>  which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font>  a light for revelation to the Gentiles,\nand the glory of your people Israel.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font>  The child\u2019s father and mother marvelled at what was said about him. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font>  Then\nSimeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: \u2018This child is destined to\ncause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be\nspoken against, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font>  so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a\nsword will pierce your own soul too.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>36<\/b><\/font>  There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of\nAsher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her\nmarriage, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>37<\/b><\/font>  and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left\nthe temple but worshipped night and day, fasting and praying. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>38<\/b><\/font>  Coming up to\nthem at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child\nto all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font>  When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the\nLord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>40<\/b><\/font>  And the child\ngrew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was\non him.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
