A large crowd of his\ndisciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from\nJerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> who had\ncome to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by\nimpure spirits were cured, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> and the people all tried to touch him, because\npower was coming from him and healing them all.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> Looking at his disciples, he said:\n\u2018Blessed are you who are poor,\nfor yours is the kingdom of God.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> Blessed are you who hunger now,\nfor you will be satisfied.\nBlessed are you who weep now,\nfor you will laugh.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font> Blessed are you when people hate you,\nwhen they exclude you and insult you\nand reject your name as evil,\nbecause of the Son of Man.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> \u2018Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.\nFor that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font> \u2018But woe to you who are rich,\nfor you have already received your comfort.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font> Woe to you who are well fed now,\nfor you will go hungry.\nWoe to you who laugh now,\nfor you will mourn and weep.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,\nfor that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
