He said to him, \u201cAbraham!\u201d\n\u201cHere I am,\u201d he replied.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> Then God said, \u201cTake your son, your only son, whom you love\u2014Isaac\u2014and go to\nthe region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will\nshow you.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him\ntwo of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt\noffering, he set out for the place God had told him about. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> On the third day Abraham\nlooked up and saw the place in the distance. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> He said to his servants, \u201cStay here\nwith the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will\ncome back to you.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and\nhe himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> Isaac\nspoke up and said to his father Abraham, \u201cFather?\u201d\n\u201cYes, my son?\u201d Abraham replied.\n\u201cThe fire and wood are here,\u201d Isaac said, \u201cbut where is the lamb for the burnt\noffering?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Abraham answered, \u201cGod himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my\nson.\u201d And the two of them went on together.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there\nand arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on\ntop of the wood. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his\nson. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, \u201cAbraham!\nAbraham!\u201d\n\u201cHere I am,\u201d he replied.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> \u201cDo not lay a hand on the boy,\u201d he said. \u201cDo not do anything to him. Now I know\nthat you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He\nwent over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his\nson. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said,\n\u201cOn the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> and said, \u201cI\nswear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not\nwithheld your son, your only son, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> I will surely bless you and make your\ndescendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the\nseashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their\nenemies, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because\nyou have obeyed me.\u201d\n<br><br><br>\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">John 13 v 31-35 <\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font> When he was gone, Jesus said, \u201cNow the Son of Man is glorified and God is\nglorified in him. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font> If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and\nwill glorify him at once.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font> \u201cMy children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as\nI told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font> \u201cA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must\nlove one another. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love\none another.\u201d\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
