Sermon given by our priest in charge the Rev\u2019 Nick Mwandia on the 19\/6\/22 for the first Sunday after Trinity \u2013 entitled \u2018Set Free By The Power Of Christ\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/190622\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"30\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/190622\/190622.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 6:15<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">1 Kings 19 v 1-15<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>1<\/b><\/font> Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the\nprophets with the sword. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, \u201cMay the\ngods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make\nyour life like that of one of them.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left\nhis servant there, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> while he himself went a day\u2019s journey into the wilderness. He\ncame to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. \u201cI have had\nenough, Lord,\u201d he said. \u201cTake my life; I am no better than my ancestors.\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> Then he\nlay down under the bush and fell asleep.\nAll at once an angel touched him and said, \u201cGet up and eat.\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> He looked around,\nand there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He\nate and drank and then lay down again.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, \u201cGet up\nand eat, for the journey is too much for you.\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> So he got up and ate and drank.\nStrengthened by that food, he travelled forty days and forty nights until he reached\nHoreb, the mountain of God. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> There he went into a cave and spent the night.\nThe Lord Appears to Elijah\nAnd the word of the Lord came to him: \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> He replied, \u201cI have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites\nhave rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death\nwith the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> The Lord said, \u201cGo out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for\nthe Lord is about to pass by.\u201d\nThen a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks\nbefore the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an\nearthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> After the earthquake came a\nfire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle\nwhisper. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and\nstood at the mouth of the cave.\nThen a voice said to him, \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> He replied, \u201cI have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites\nhave rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death\nwith the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> The Lord said to him, \u201cGo back the way you came, and go to the Desert of\nDamascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram.\n\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">Luke 8 v 26-39<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from\nGalilee. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man\nfrom the town. For a long time, this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house but\nhad lived in the tombs. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet,\nshouting at the top of his voice, \u201cWhat do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most\nHigh God? I beg you, don\u2019t torture me!\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font> For Jesus had commanded the impure\nspirit to come out of the man. Many times, it had seized him, and though he was\nchained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had\nbeen driven by the demon into solitary places.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font> Jesus asked him, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d\n\u201cLegion,\u201d he replied, because many demons had gone into him. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font> And they begged\nJesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font> A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus\nto let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font> When the demons\ncame out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep\nbank into the lake and was drowned.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font> When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported\nthis in the town and countryside, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> and the people went out to see what had\nhappened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons\nhad gone out, sitting at Jesus\u2019 feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were\nafraid. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>36<\/b><\/font> Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had\nbeen cured. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>37<\/b><\/font> Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to\nleave them, because they were overcome with fear. So, he got into the boat and left.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>38<\/b><\/font> The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus\nsent him away, saying, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font> \u201cReturn home and tell how much God has done for\nyou.\u201d So, the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for\nhim.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
