When he finished, one of his\ndisciples said to him, \u201cLord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> He said to them, \u201cWhen you pray, say: \u201c\u2018Father, hallowed be your name, your\nkingdom come. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> Give us each day our daily bread. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> Forgive us our sins, for we also\nforgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.\u2019\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> Then Jesus said to them, \u201cSuppose you have a friend, and you go to him at\nmidnight and say, \u2018Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> a friend of mine on a\njourney has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> And suppose the one\ninside answers, \u2018Don\u2019t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I\nare in bed. I can\u2019t get up and give you anything.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> I tell you, even though he will not\nget up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless\naudacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> \u201cSo I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and\nthe door will be opened to you. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> For everyone who asks receives; the one who\nseeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> \u201cWhich of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake\ninstead? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> If you then, though\nyou are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your\nFather in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!\u201d\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
