Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem! \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> On that day they will say to Jerusalem, \u2018Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> \u2018I will remove from you all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals, which is a burden and reproach for you. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honour in every land where they have suffered shame. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honour and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,\u2019 says the Lord.\n\n<br><br><br>\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Luke 24 v 13-35 <\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> but they were kept from recognising him.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> He asked them, \u2018What are you discussing together as you walk along?\u2019 They stood still, their faces downcast. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, \u2018Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> \u2018What things?\u2019 he asked.\n\u2018About Jesus of Nazareth,\u2019 they replied. \u2018He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font> In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> but didn\u2019t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font> Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font> He said to them, \u2018How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on, as if he were going further. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font> But they urged him strongly, \u2018Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.\u2019 So, he went in to stay with them.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font> When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font> Then their eyes were opened, and they recognised\nhim, and he disappeared from their sight. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font> They asked each other, \u2018Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font> They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font> and saying, \u2018It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognised by them when he broke the bread.<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
