{"id":987,"date":"2024-10-16T19:39:05","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T18:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/?p=987"},"modified":"2024-10-18T13:29:41","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T12:29:41","slug":"the-rich-and-the-kingdom-of-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/2024\/10\/16\/the-rich-and-the-kingdom-of-god\/","title":{"rendered":"The Rich and the Kingdom of God"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today\u2019s sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor for the Harvest Praise service on the 13th October 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/131024.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Right click\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/131024.mp3\"><strong>HERE!<\/strong><\/a>  to download<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 3:30<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Mark 10 v 17-31\n<br><br>\nThe Rich and the Kingdom of God<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. \u201cGood teacher,\u201d he asked, \u201cwhat must I do to inherit eternal life?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> \u201cWhy do you call me good?\u201d Jesus answered. \u201cNo one is good\u2014except God alone. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> You know the commandments: \u2018You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.\u2019\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> \u201cTeacher,\u201d he declared, \u201call these I have kept since I was a boy.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> Jesus looked at him and loved him. \u201cOne thing you lack,\u201d he said. \u201cGo, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font> At this the man\u2019s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, \u201cHow hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font> The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, \u201cChildren, how hard it is[b] to enter the kingdom of God! \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font> It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, \u201cWho then can be saved?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> Jesus looked at them and said, \u201cWith man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> Then Peter spoke up, \u201cWe have left everything to follow you!\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font> \u201cTruly I tell you,\u201d Jesus replied, \u201cno one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font> will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields\u2014along with persecutions\u2014and in the age to come eternal life. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font> But many who are first will be last, and the last first.\u201d<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today\u2019s sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor for the Harvest Praise service on the 13th October 2024.
