There have been allotments in Slip End for at least 100 years, situated on land owned by Luton Hoo, located on the corner of Front Street and New Street.
Luton Hoo Estate are about to clear the two rough sections and prepare them for use (April 2012). Plots are usually 10 or 20 pole. A pole is 5.5 yards so a 10 pole allotment is about 165 feet long. The new plots can be divided into smaller units and the rent will be pro rata. The plots should be available from May onwards which is a good time to plant up for crops this year.
