Surely the LORD has done great things. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>22<\/b><\/font> Be not afraid, O wild animals, for the open pastures are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>23<\/b><\/font> Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains as before. The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with oil. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font> You will have plenty to eat until you are full, and you will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you.\n\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">Mark 4 v 1-10, 13-20<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>1<\/b><\/font> Again, Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people  were along the shore at the water\u2019s edge. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> He taught them many things by parables  and in his teaching said, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> \u201cListen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and they withered because they had no root. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> Then Jesus said, \u201cHe who has ears to hear let him hear.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> When he was alone, the twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> Then Jesus said to them, \u201cDon\u2019t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> The farmer sows the word. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things  come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop \u2013 thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.\u201d\n<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
