Given by our vicar Rev Lindsey Moss, recorded on the 21st June 2026 on Sanctuary Sunday<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/210626\" width=\"500\" height=\"30\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/210626\/210626.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 4:55<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Genesis 21 v 8-21\n<br><br>\nHagar and Ishmael sent away<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font>\nThe child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned\nAbraham held a great feast. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the\nEgyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> and she said to Abraham,\n\u2018Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman\u2019s son will never\nshare in the inheritance with my son Isaac.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font>\nThe matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> But\nGod said to him, \u2018Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave\nwoman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that\nyour offspring will be reckoned. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> I will make the son of the slave into a nation\nalso, because he is your offspring.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font>\nEarly the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and\ngave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with\nthe boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font>\nWhen the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the\nbushes. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> Then she went off and sat down about a bow-shot away, for she\nthought, \u2018I cannot watch the boy die.\u2019 And as she sat there, she began to sob.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font>\nGod heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from\nheaven and said to her, \u2018What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has\nheard the boy crying as he lies there. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> Lift the boy up and take him by the\nhand, for I will make him into a great nation.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font>\nThen God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and\nfilled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font>\nGod was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an\narcher. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for\nhim from Egypt.\n<br><br><br>\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Matthew: 10 v 24-39 <\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>24<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>25<\/b><\/font> It is\nenough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If\nthe head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the\nmembers of his household!\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>26<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be\ndisclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>27<\/b><\/font> What I tell you in the dark,\nspeak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the\nroofs. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>28<\/b><\/font> Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.\nRather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>29<\/b><\/font> Are\nnot two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground\noutside your Father\u2019s care. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>30<\/b><\/font> And even the very hairs of your head are all\nnumbered. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>31<\/b><\/font> So don\u2019t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>32<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before\nmy Father in heaven. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>33<\/b><\/font> But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown\nbefore my Father in heaven.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come\nto bring peace, but a sword. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> For I have come to turn<br>\n\u2018\u201ca man against his father,<br>\na daughter against her mother,<br>\na daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law \u2013\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>36<\/b><\/font>\na man\u2019s enemies will be the members of his own household.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>37<\/b><\/font>\n\u2018Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me;\nanyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of\nme. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>38<\/b><\/font> Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of\nme. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font> Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my\nsake will find it.\n<br><br>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
