He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font>  The devil said to him, \u2018If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font>  Jesus answered, \u2018It is written: \u201cMan shall not live on bread alone.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font>  The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font>  And he said to him, \u2018I will give you all their authority and splendour; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font>  If you worship me, it will all be yours.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font>  Jesus answered, \u2018It is written: \u201cWorship the Lord your God and serve him only.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font>  The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. \u2018If you are the Son of God,\u2019 he said, \u2018throw yourself down from here. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font>  For it is written:\n<br><br>\n\u2018\u201cHe will command his angels concerning you\n    to guard you carefully;\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font>  \nthey will lift you up in their hands,\n    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font>  Jesus answered, \u2018It is said: \u201cDo not put the Lord your God to the test.\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font>  When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
