His food was locusts and wild honey. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> People went out to him from Jerusalem\nand all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> Confessing their sins, they were\nbaptized by him in the Jordan River.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font>\nBut when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was\nbaptizing, he said to them: \u201cYou brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the\ncoming wrath? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> And do not think you can\nsay to yourselves, \u2018We have Abraham as our father.\u2019 I tell you that out of these\nstones God can raise up children for Abraham. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> The axe is already at the root of\nthe trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and\nthrown into the fire.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font>\n\u201cI baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more\npowerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the\nHoly Spirit and fire. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his\nthreshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with\nunquenchable fire.\u201d\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon from St Andrews Church, Slip End, UK.
