{"id":775,"date":"2023-05-29T08:39:52","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T07:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/46.32.240.45\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/?p=775"},"modified":"2023-05-29T08:51:40","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T07:51:40","slug":"pentecost-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/2023\/05\/29\/pentecost-praise\/","title":{"rendered":"Pentecost Praise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Todays sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor on the Pentecost service, 28th May 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/280523\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"60\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/download\/280523\/280523.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 1:35<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">Acts 2 v 1-13\n<br><br>\nThe Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>1<\/b><\/font> When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> Utterly amazed, they asked: \u201cAren\u2019t all these who are speaking Galileans? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs\u2014we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, \u201cWhat does this mean?\u201d\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> Some, however, made fun of them and said, \u201cThey have had too much wine.\u201d\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"green\">Second reading starts at 5:45<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"red\">Acts 2 v 14-21\n<br><br>\nPeter Addresses the Crowd<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: \u201cFellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It\u2019s only nine in the morning! \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> \n\u201c\u2018In the last days, God says,\n    I will pour out my Spirit on all people.<br>\nYour sons and daughters will prophesy,<br>\n    your young men will see visions,<br>\n    your old men will dream dreams.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> \nEven on my servants, both men and women,<br>\n    I will pour out my Spirit in those days,<br>\n    and they will prophesy.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> \nI will show wonders in the heavens above<br>\n    and signs on the earth below,<br>\n    blood and fire and billows of smoke.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> \nThe sun will be turned to darkness<br>\n    and the moon to blood<br>\n    before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> \nAnd everyone who calls\n    on the name of the Lord will be saved.<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Todays sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor on the Pentecost service, 28th May 2023.
