Then he\nrented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>34<\/b><\/font> When the\nharvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>35<\/b><\/font> \u2018The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a\nthird. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>36<\/b><\/font> Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the\ntenants treated them in the same way. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>37<\/b><\/font> Last of all, he sent his son to them.\n\u201cThey will respect my son,\u201d he said.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>38<\/b><\/font> \u2018But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, \u201cThis is the heir.\nCome, let\u2019s kill him and take his inheritance.\u201d \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>39<\/b><\/font> So they took him and threw\nhim out of the vineyard and killed him.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>40<\/b><\/font> \u2018Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those\ntenants?\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>41<\/b><\/font> \u2018He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,\u2019 they replied, \u2018and he will\nrent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at\nharvest time.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>42<\/b><\/font> Jesus said to them, \u2018Have you never read in the Scriptures:\n\u2018\u201cThe stone the builders rejected\nhas become the cornerstone;\nthe Lord has done this,\nand it is marvellous in our eyes\u201d?\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>43<\/b><\/font> \u2018Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you\nand given to a people who will produce its fruit. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>44<\/b><\/font> Anyone who falls on this\nstone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>45<\/b><\/font> When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus\u2019 parables, they knew\nhe was talking about them. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>46<\/b><\/font> They looked for a way to arrest him, but they\nwere afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.\n<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Todays sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor at the service on Sunday 8th October 2023.
