{"id":955,"date":"2024-07-28T21:09:49","date_gmt":"2024-07-28T20:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/?p=955"},"modified":"2024-07-28T21:15:07","modified_gmt":"2024-07-28T20:15:07","slug":"extravagant-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slipend.co.uk\/sermons\/2024\/07\/28\/extravagant-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Extravagant Love"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today\u2019s sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor on the ninth Sunday after Trinity. 28th July 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/280724\" width=\"500\" height=\"60\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Mp3&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/280724\/280724.mp3\">HERE!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sermon starts at 4:11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<font color=\"red\">John 6 V 1-15\n<br><br>\nJesus feeds the five thousand<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>1<\/b><\/font> Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee\n(that is, the Sea of Tiberias), \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>2<\/b><\/font> and a great crowd of people followed him\nbecause they saw the signs he had performed by healing those who were\nill. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>3<\/b><\/font> Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his\ndisciples. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>4<\/b><\/font> The Jewish Passover Festival was near.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>5<\/b><\/font> When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming towards him, he said\nto Philip, \u2018Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>6<\/b><\/font> He asked this\nonly to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>7<\/b><\/font> Philip answered him, \u2018It would take more than half a year\u2019s wages to buy\nenough bread for each one to have a bite!\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>8<\/b><\/font> Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter\u2019s brother, spoke up, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>9<\/b><\/font> \u2018Here is\na boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go\namong so many?\u2019\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>10<\/b><\/font> Jesus said, \u2018Make the people sit down.\u2019 There was plenty of grass in that\nplace, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>11<\/b><\/font> Jesus then\ntook the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as\nmuch as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>12<\/b><\/font> When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, \u2018Gather the\npieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>13<\/b><\/font> So they gathered them and\nfilled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those\nwho had eaten.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, \u2018Surely\nthis is the Prophet who is to come into the world.\u2019 \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> Jesus, knowing that they\nintended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain\nby himself.\n<br><br><br>\n\n<font color=\"red\">Ephesians 3 V 14-21\n<br><br>\nA prayer for the Ephesians<\/font>\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>14<\/b><\/font> For this reason I kneel before the Father, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>15<\/b><\/font> from whom every family in\nheaven and on earth derives its name. \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>16<\/b><\/font> I pray that out of his glorious riches\nhe may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>17<\/b><\/font> so\nthat Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being\nrooted and established in love, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>18<\/b><\/font> may have power, together with all the Lord\u2019s\nholy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of\nChrist, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>19<\/b><\/font> and to know this love that surpasses knowledge \u2013 that you may be\nfilled to the measure of all the fullness of God.\n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>20<\/b><\/font> Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or\nimagine, according to his power that is at work within us, \n<br><br>\n<font color=\"blue\"><b>21<\/b><\/font> to him be glory in\nthe church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!\nAmen.<br><br>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today\u2019s sermon was given by our reader Julie Taylor on the ninth Sunday after Trinity. 28th July 2024.
